Based on surveys, some people claimed to have experienced headaches and migraine attacks during their sexual activities. There are proven explanations why such headaches occur during masturbation period or any kind of sex activities to both men and women.
For most people, sex headaches are combination of blood pressure and muscle tension. Apparently, sex raises the blood pressure and causes muscle tightening and tension. This will in turn raise the pressure in the head.
There are basically 2 types of sex headaches:
First Type
“Benign Coital headache” is very intense headaches that begins at or shortly before during orgasm. The pain lasts from five to 15 minutes and declined gradually over 24 hours. Although benign coital or orgasmic headaches are very painful, and obviously limit sexual enjoyment, they present no other acute threat. They are thought to result from muscle contraction, and/or blood vessel dilation, in the head and neck during sex.
Second Type
"New onset" is severe headache during sex. It can represent a life threatening emergency, which requires emergency evaluation and treatment. This is a first time headache, which the patient generally characterizes as the worst headache of their life. This type of sex headache is a serious emergency until proven otherwise. Such a headache is often due to an acute brain hemorrhage or other serious condition. Fortunately, this type of first onset headache is fairly unusual. But be more concerned about it when you feel that the headache isn’t just an ordinary headache.
So whenever Benign or onset type of headache occurs while you are having sex, it is advisable to see a physician for more proper evaluation and treatment. Sex headaches often go away on their own in a matter of weeks or months. Fortunately, the treatments are much the same as any headaches if benign is diagnosed. Just make sure you get the right medicine for treatment. Again, don’t panic, trust your doctor to help you with your headache problems.
